One (1) Position

DEFINITION
Under supervision, participate in the installation, repair, and maintenance of District electrical and mechanical systems and wiring, including monitoring and controls. Perform maintenance, repairs and installations of related pumps, motors, control and monitoring equipment and plumbing both indoors and outdoors. Generally related but not limited to water distribution systems and facilities including booster and well pumps, motors, automated structures and equipment. Perform related work as required throughout the MID.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
• To assist fellow employees on the job.
• Keep detailed records of job sites, scope of work,repairs and parts and materials used.
• Use cutting torch, welder, and other required tools in a proficient manner.
• Straighten and repair pump shafts and replace bearings as needed.
• Install, troubleshoot, maintain and repair electrical equipment at job sites and facilities (revamp electrical systems when needed), and make related other repairs as needed.
• Repair or replace deep well turbines, and various other lift-stations and booster pumps and systems.
• Trouble shoot pumps, motors and electrical wiring, breakers, receptacles, meters, panels, controls, monitors and electrical systems and equipment without direct supervision.
• Test and evaluate indoor and outdoor electrical wiring, breakers, receptacles, meters, panels, controls, monitors and other related electrical system components, and make necessary repairs and renovations.
• Take care of tools and equipment.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Use independent judgment and initiative.
• Test pumping of new and redrilled wells.
• Clean old wells with bailer or blow pipe and compressor.
• Respond to emergency situations.
• Work overtime as may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license.
• Possession of a Valid State of California Electrical Contractors License or other appropriate qualifying certification or license, and two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation of electrical system and construction repair, OR
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an electrician AND four (4) years experience performing the work of an electrician OR
• Five (5) years of successful and varied experience in the repair, maintenance and installation of electrical pumping equipment and electronic control and monitoring devices
• An Associates of Arts or Certificate of Arts Degree in Electrical Technology may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
• General construction and maintenance materials, procedures, and equipment.
• Vast knowledge of 480V 3 Phase, 230V 3 Phase, and 110V single phase electrical circuits.
• Electrical testing equipment (ohm, amp, voltage and insulation testers).
• Wire circuit and panel sizing.
• Safety precautions while working with electricity, including the Electrical Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety and Cal/OSHA safety and health regulations.
• National Electric Code (NEC) and other requirements for agricultural and industrial electric service.
• Pump operating and maintenance fundamentals.
• Wire circuit and panel sizing.
• Pipe sizes including thread sizes of column, tube and shaft.
• Safe work practices relating to the above.

Ability to:
• Operate proficiently and safely the particular types of equipment assigned.
• Communicate effectively with co-workers, customers, contractors and others contacted in the course of work.
• Perform daily inspections with required paperwork filled out of assigned equipment to ensure safe operation.
• Perform skilled and semi-skilled construction, repairs and maintenance work.
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Read and understand electrical schematics, drawings and construction plans and specifications.
• Accomplish work with a high degree of competence and neatness.

EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation, installation, repair and maintenance of electrical, control and monitoring systems.

• Communicates orally with District staff in face-to-face, one-to-one settings.
• Regularly uses a telephone and radio for communication.
• May sit or stand and walk on uneven terrain for extended time periods.
• Hearing, vision, and eye-hand coordination sufficient to operate heavy equipment foot and hand controls and to maintain good awareness during maintenance and construction jobs.

Lifting: Raises and lowers supplies and equipment up to fifty (50) pounds.
Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at the knees or waist

Hearing: Hears well enough to receive communications in person and by telephone.
Vision: Operates vehicles and office equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

• Exposure to the sun: 90% or less work time spent outside a building and exposed to the sun.
• Irregular or extended work hours: Per the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
• Work performed in an outside environment

SUPERVISION:
